We took 12 Saudi dishes — from kabsa to mfatah — searched each in a popular US calorie app, and logged each in Loqma. The result shows a gap in recognition and logging experience. On its own, it does not prove Loqma is closer to a laboratory reference, so this page now separates those two claims.
Did the app understand the dish and return something loggable?
We did not compare every result with a lab sample of the same recipe and weight.
A separate benchmark against SFDA tables with scoring rules published in advance.
Loqma shows calories for your full plate + protein, carbs and fat, and tells you how confident it is. The US app… see for yourself.
This table compares calories per 100g with an approximate range for the dish family. It can catch an impossible number, but it cannot establish accuracy: recipe, oil, meat ratio, and water loss all change the answer. We therefore show it as an initial screen and calculate no pass rate from it.
| Dish | Loqma: kcal/100g | Typical family range* |
|---|
* Approximate dish-family ranges for orientation only. A formal reference must match the dish, recipe, and serving weight.
SFDA published the Saudi Food Composition Tables: 130 dishes, three preparations per dish, at least 12 samples, and analysis of 49 nutrients. That is stronger evidence than a broad dish-family range.
Every nutrition estimate — even factory labels — carries a margin. What's different in Loqma is that accuracy is a system that improves, not a number that dies:
No. The same dish changes with its recipe and portion, and a photo or description may omit important details. Loqma gives you a reviewable estimate you can correct; it is not a laboratory measurement.
The original test measured recognition and coverage, not calorie accuracy. A stronger official Saudi reference is now available, so we link it above and clearly separate the current result from the reference benchmark that should follow.
Loqma's developer, himself, July 2026, with real screenshots from both apps. Not an independent study — and we don't claim it is. The strongest proof we can offer: repeat it yourself in 5 minutes. Download both apps, search "qursan", and see.
You tell it what's wrong in one sentence — "the portion was smaller", "it was the low-fat one" — and it recomputes just that item and shows its reasoning.
Trademark courtesy. But every figure shown is its own public search results exactly as they appeared to us, unedited — and you can verify them yourself in minutes.
Estimates are nutritional approximations, not medical advice. Comparison-app results came from a manual search as they appeared in July 2026; the test was run by Loqma’s developer, not an independent party. Density ranges are approximate and are not an accuracy score.
